Corrado Zoli (3 January 1877 – 8 December 1951) was an Italian writer, diplomat and explorer of Africa, born in Palermo. He was the colonial governor of Italian Eritrea from 1928 to 1930.

Biography

Corrado Zoli was born in Palermo. He was a correspondent for both La Stampa and Il Secolo. He participated in the Fezzan expedition and explored the Sahara.

During the War of Libya, he appeared in some photographs taken by the French war correspondent Gaston Chérau, who also mentioned his colleague in letters exchanged with his wife.

In 1919, he had already followed Gabriele D'Annunzio in the Enterprise of Fiume and was appointed foreign undersecretary of the Italian Regency of Carnaro.

He was governor of the colony of Oltregiuba (annexed to Italian Somaliland) from 16 July 1924 to 31 December 1926, and of the Eritrean Colony from 1 June 1928 to February 1930. Later, from 1933 to 1944, he was president of the Italian Geographical Society.

Author of numerous books on expeditions and military history, he also described for the Nuova Antologia the events in Italian East Africa between 1935 and 1937, later collected in a volume, and participated, with his own essay on political geography, together with those of Roberto Almagià, Giotto Dainelli and Attilio Mori, in the publication Africa orientale (1935) by the Italian Geographical Society.

Corrado Zoli died in Rome.
