Summary
The arms were officially granted on march 31, 1970. The arms are mainly based on the arms of the former district Saarburg. The castle is slightly changed and an additional background is added with the barry shield of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg" class="extiw" title="en:Luxembourg">Luxembourg</a>, as a large part of the district historically belonged to Luxembourg. The cross is derived from the arms of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electorate_of_Trier" class="extiw" title="en:Electorate of Trier">Electorate of Trier</a>.
