Flight Engineer <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitriyevich_Oleg_Kononenko" class="extiw" title="en:Dmitriyevich Oleg Kononenko">Dmitriyevich Oleg Kononenko</a> photographs commander <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Alexandrovich_Volkov" class="extiw" title="en:Sergey Alexandrovich Volkov">Sergey Alexandrovich Volkov</a> during expedition 17 to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISS" class="extiw" title="en:ISS">ISS</a>.

Kononenko is at the end of the manual <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strela_(crane)" class="extiw" title="en:Strela (crane)">Strela crane</a> operated by the commander. The telescopic crane has a mass of around 45kg. An orange safety lifeline along the length of the boom fastens the crew to the ship.

4 larger parabolic dishes and several smaller ones are part of the Kurs docking system. 2 black and white diamond shaped docking targets, a green periscope and an open <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra-vehicular_activity" class="extiw" title="en:Extra-vehicular activity">extra-vehicular activity</a> hatch can be seen in the image.

The commander stands on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirs_(ISS_module)" class="extiw" title="en:Pirs (ISS module)">Pirs</a> airlock/docking module and has his back to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz_spacecraft" class="extiw" title="en:Soyuz spacecraft">Soyuz spacecraft</a>. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zarya" class="extiw" title="en:Zarya">Zarya</a> is seen to the left and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zvezda_(ISS_module)" class="extiw" title="en:Zvezda (ISS module)">Zvezda</a> across the bottom of the image.
