Season 1923–24 was the 47th Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 25th time and the Scottish Cup for the 36th time.

Overview

Struggling in 17th place at the turn of the year, and threatened with relegation to the Third Division, Dumbarton went on an unbeaten 10 match run which took them to 7th - but a promotion was never a reality and finished 10th, out of 20, in the Second Division with 39 points - 17 beind champions St Johnstone[1]

In the Scottish Cup, for the third year running, Dumbarton were knocked out in the first round, this time by Aberdeen.

Locally, Dumbarton lost in the first round of the Dumbartonshire Cup to Clydebank, after a replay. The format of the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup was changed with the county champions, Clydebank playing a Dumbartonshire Select for possession of the trophy.

Elsewhere, three 'friendly' matches were played, winning 1 and losing 2, scoring 4 goals for the loss of 7.
