The 2017 Tim Hortons Brier is a curling event being held at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador from March 4–12, 2017.

The winning team will represent Team Canada at the 2017 Ford World Men's Curling Championship, which will be held from April 1–9, 2017 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta for the second time since 2007.[1][2]

This marks the second time the Brier has been hosted in St. John's since the 1972 Macdonald Brier.[3]

Host bidding

Both Ontario's Sault Ste. Marie (Essar Centre)[4] and Newfoundland and Labrador's St. John's (Mile One Centre) made bids for the Brier, but it was announced on September 14th, 2015 that St. John's would host.

Brier Bear

The wearer of the Brier Bear - the Brier-renowned mascot - suit, Reg Caughie,[5] has announced that - after the Brier - he will retire from wearing the suit.[6] 78-year old Caughie will retire after 37 years of wearing the suit. Caughie believes that Curling Canada will continue the tradition of the Brier Bear.

Teams

Team  Alberta - the winner of the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier - will replace Pat Simmons' team as Team Canada in the Brier.

A full list of teams is to be decided.
