Anthro Corporation is a private company founded in Portland, Oregon, U.S. in 1984. The company designs, manufactures, and sells ergonomic furniture for technology. Anthro is based in Tualatin, Oregon.

History

Anthro was founded in 1984 by Shoaib Tareen and Cathy Filgas as a subsidiary of Tektronix. The first products were carts for engineers and personal computer users. The first product that Anthro designed was the AnthroCart, a small, mobile cart for desktop computers.

In 1987, the company founders purchased the company from Tektronix.

In the early 1990s, Anthro moved all of their manufacturing processes in-house. This was done to create faster lead times than they had when purchasing manufactured products from vendors.

Over time, Anthro built on the AnthroCart with more complex products, including electric lift tables, power supply carts, laptop storage and charging carts, and radiology reading room tables.[1] The company's revenue rose to $38 million for 2014.[2] In January 2015, the company was bought by Nortek Inc. for an undisclosed sum.[3]

Products

Anthro manufacturers ergonomic workstations, equipment carts, wall-mounted workstations, and PACS reading room furniture.

Carl's Table

The Carl's Table line of desks was designed for radiology reading rooms. The largest model includes a side shelf, footrest, height-adjustable legs, electrically controlled shelves, and background lights.[4][5][6]

Height-adjustable desks

Anthro offers a variety of height-adjustable desks and tables. These allow the user to electronically raise and lower the desk height, enabling the user to sit or stand at their desk.[7][8][9][10]

Shadow program

Anthro introduced the Shadow Program shortly after the company was founded in 1984. The Shadow Program designates one employee each week to observe and develop a relationship with a fellow employee in an unfamiliar department.[11]
