Plot

Matsuri Kazamaki and Suzu Kanade are childhood friends who share the ability to see ayakashi (?), spirits that are invisible to most people. While Matsuri is descendant of a line of exorcist ninja (祓忍?) who protect people from evil ayakashi, Suzu is an Ayakashi Medium (妖巫女 Ayakashi Miko?), a rare type of human who over-secretes life force and thus attracts many ayakashi. However, Matsuri learns Suzu's growing power will inevitably bring ayakashi to try to devour her to get more power, so he decides to protect Suzu by exorcising the evil ayakashi that approach her. Years later, on the day before the pair were to start high school, Suzu is attacked by Shirogane, the King of Ayakashi, but is saved by Matsuri. Unable to beat him, Matsuri seals away most of his powers into a scroll, but before he does, Shirogane puts a curse on Matsuri that turns him into a girl, hoping the transformation will ruin any chance he and Suzu have of becoming a couple in the future. As Suzu helps Matsuri to adjust to his new life as a girl, Shirogane plots to regain his power and devour Suzu.[5]

Characters

Main

Matsuri Kazamaki (風巻 祭里 Kazamaki Matsuri?)
Training to take over his grandfather's business, Matsuri is a young exorcist ninja from the Kazamaki clan, who specialize in Wind Jutsu. When he seals away most of Shirogane's power, the King of Ayakashi turns Matsuri into a silver-haired girl.
Suzu Kanade (花奏 すず Kanade Suzu?)
Suzu is an Ayakashi Medium. She seems to have romantic feelings towards her childhood friend Matsuri, even after he is turned into a girl.
Shirogane (シロガネ?)
Shirogane is the King of Ayakashi. Although his true form is that of a gigantic feline, when he suppresses his power he appears as an overweight cat wearing a bib; a form he gets stuck in when most of his powers are sealed into a scroll by Matsuri. Shirogane wants to devour Suzu to gain more power, and seems to get jealous of her feelings towards Matsuri.
Soga Ninokuru (ニノ曲 宋牙 Ninokuru Sōga?)
Soga is a exorcist ninja from the Ninokuru clan, who thinks of Matsuri Kazamaki as his rival.

Supporting

Seigen Kazamaki (風巻 清弦 Kazamaki Seigen?)
Seigen is Matsuri's grandfather, his mentor, and the current head of the Kazamaki clan.
Yayoi Toba (鳥羽 弥生 Toba Yayoi?) and Lucy Tsukioka (月丘 ルーシー Tsukioka Rūshī?)
Yayoi and Lucy, nicknamed "Yayo" (ヤヨ?) and "Lu" (ルー ?), are Suzu's best friends and classmates since middle school. While Yayo is in the habit of sexually harassing Suzu and other girls, groping many parts of their bodies against their will, Lu is a cell phone and social media addict, taking and then posting pictures of whatever she deems "postworthy."
Masurao Sujimori (筋森 益荒男 Sujimori Masurao?)
Masurao is a former mercenary who is now the English teacher at Matsuri and Suzu's school.
Garaku Utagawa (歌川 画楽 Utagawa Garaku?)
Garaku is an ayakashi who uses his human looks to establish a reputation as a great painter. He considers himself a follower of Shirogane, though the cat himself doesn't accept his loyalty.
Reo Korogi
A ninja exorcist who makes and maintains equipment out of her family's toy shop.
