Ben Jones (born 2 January 1991), known professionally as Ben Hardy, is an English actor and model, known for playing Peter Beale in the BBC soap opera EastEnders (2013–15). Hardy made his film debut as Warren Worthington III / Angel in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).[2]

Early life

Hardy was born in Bournemouth, Dorset, and grew up in Sherborne. He attended Sherborne Abbey Primary School and the Gryphon School.[1] As a student at Gryphon, Hardy starred as Sergeant Francis Troy in a school film adaptation of Far from the Madding Crowd.[3]

Career

In 2012, Hardy starred as Arthur Wellesley in the David Hare play The Judas Kiss, also featuring Rupert Everett. The production initially had a limited run at the Hampstead Theatre from September to October 2012, and following rave reviews was transferred to the West End's Duke of York's Theatre in January 2013.[4][5] His role required him to perform full frontal nudity, which he later described as "incredibly nerve-wracking."[6]

On 19 April 2013, it was announced that Hardy would play Peter Beale in the long-running BBC soap opera EastEnders, taking over from Thomas Law who portayed the character from 2006 until 2010. Hardy said: "I'm really excited to be joining the fantastic cast of EastEnders – a show which my family have watched for years. I can't wait to step into the shoes of a character with so much history and am looking forward to getting stuck in."[7] He made his first appearance on 7 June 2013. On 19 November 2014, it was announced that Hardy would leave the series.[8] He made his final appearance on 24 February 2015.

Hardy co-starred in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), portraying mutant Warren Worthington III / Angel.[9] The role marked his feature film debut.[10] In February 2016, he was cast in the Mary Shelley biopic/romance film A Storm in the Stars, starring opposite Elle Fanning and Douglas Booth.[11]
