Bill Foran

William "Bill" Foran is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association. He has co-authored multiple books on strength and conditioning, and was the sole editor of High Performance Sports Conditioning (2001).[1] In 2014, Foran was inducted into the USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame.[2]

Early life

Foran graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School in Elsie, Michigan before attending Central Michigan University where he earned a dual degree in physical education and health education. He then went to Michigan State University to receive his master's degree in exercise physiology.

Coaching career

College

Foran began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University. He then was hired as the head strength and conditioning coach at Washington State University, before serving in the same capacity at University of Miami. Foran was the strength and conditioning coach for the National Champion 1987 Miami Hurricanes football team.

NBA

Foran was hired as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Miami Heat in 1989 after spending one year as a strength and conditioning consultant for the team. During his tenure with the Heat, the team has won three NBA Championships (2006, 2012, and 2013).

Awards and Honors

  • 2009 NBA Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year (Co-winner with Dwight Daub of the Oklahoma City Thunder)
  • 2014 USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame Inductee
