Carpe Diem is the third studio album from Mexican pop singer Belinda, released on March 23, 2010 through Capitol Latin.[1] The album is primarily electropop music for dancing, a more mature sound than previous albums.[2] The album debuted on the Billboard Top Latin Albums at number 12, number 3 in the Latin pop albums and number 21 on the Top Heatseekers Album. In Mexico, entered at No. 7 and No. 5 in the category in Spanish.[3]

On March 25, two days after its release, Belinda was certified gold by offering an autograph session in Mexico City, more than 30,000 copies sold. The name of the carpe diem album comes from the Latin language, a phrase that literally means "Long live the day" or "Seize the day", coined by the Roman poet Horace, 12, who was adopted by Belinda movie Dead Poets Carpe diem Society.13 unlike his previous album, containing more cheerful, positive, more danceable, 14 fusion of electronic beats songs.[4]

Among the producers is the Mexican Golden Baqueiro, who produced the theme "Sal de mi Piel" in Los Angeles, also was attended by Jimmy Harry, who produced the theme "Égoista", and previously had worked in his old job Utopía. The album also features production by French artist Arno Elias, who produced the theme "Amor Transgénico" as well as the participation of the Spanish Carlos Jean. In addition, the propia Belinda, composed, coordenor credited the image, along with his father, executive producer of the album.[5]

Background

Production

The album name is a Latin phrase meaning "Seize the Day" coined by the Roman poet Horace. The album includes 11 tracks and 12 on the iTunes and European editions, composed and produced by herself and would be a change in her musical styles heard on her previous album, Utopía, also include a song titled "Cuida De Mí" written specially for her late grandfather, who died in 2008.[6] The album was recorded mainly in cities such as Los Angeles, Madrid, London, Miami.[6] The album includes contributions from songwriter Nacho Peregrín along with the producers Aureo Baqueiro, Jimmy Harry, Carlos Jean, Arno Elias, as well as Belinda herself, who is accredited as composer, image coordinator and executive producer of the album.[7]

Release

The released date was originally November 24, 2009, later Belinda confirmed on her Twitter that the release date was postponed from November 24, 2009 to March 23, 2010. The album was released March 12, 2010 in Canadian iTunes by mistake, which led to a mass leak over the internet and popular video site YouTube. The album was taken off from iTunes later that same day. The album debuted at number 1 on both iTunes Mexico and the USA (Latin)'s top album charts on the day of its official release. Two days after its release, the album was certified gold in Mexico on March 25, 2010, after 40,000 copies sold.[8][9]
