Chris Stromquist

Chris Stromquist (5 March 1973) is an American rock, Latin, jazz and world music drummer. He is a member of the Seattle ethnic punk band Kultur Shock,[1] the Brooklyn Balkan brass band Slavic Soul Party.[2][3] and the New York avante-garde Salsa band Zemog El Gallo Bueno.

Stromquist was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended Macalester College, where he studied Ghanaian percussion with Sowah Mensah and later studied Afro-Cuban Bata drumming with Regino Jimenez Saez in Havana, Cuba.[4]

Career as a drummer

As well as extensive performing,[5] touring[6] and recording with the bands Kultur Shock[7] and Slavic Soul Party!, Stromquist has worked frequently with Amy Denio, Jessica Lurie and The Tiptons Sax Quartet[8] as well as with Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos-Neto [9][10] He has often worked as a session musician in Seattle, Washington and New York City.[11][12][13]

Stromquist currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife and two sons.
