DFO Moorabbin (also known as Direct Factory Outlets Moorabbin), is a regional discount shopping centre located in Cheltenham, Victoria[2][3] approximately 16 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, directly adjacent to Moorabbin Airport.

History

Originally Fairways Leisure Market, the centre was opened in 1992, on land adjacent to Moorabbin Airport.[1]

In 1997, the centre was purchased by the Austexx Group and was the group's first of eleven Direct Factory Outlets shopping centres in Australia.[4] The centre had approximately 45 stores, on 8,000m2 of land.[5] Since opening, the centre has been expanded to 24,715m2,[2] and as a result now comprises up to 135 stores mainly devoted to fashion,[2] and two food courts.

Kingston Central Plaza also adjacent to DFO is a smaller shopping precinct, which opened in 2008, and has 10 stores including: The Good Guys, Aldi Supermarket and Sam's Warehouse, closed 2013 and soon replaced by a Toys "R" Us .[6]

DFO Moorabbin's main local rival is the super-regional shopping centre, Westfield Southland, which is located approximately 5 kilometres north-east from the centre, in Cheltenham.

Transport

The shopping centre is serviced by Bus routes, as well as the nearby Cheltenham railway station, Melbourne, a 30-40 minute walk from the centre.[3]
