"Edge of This World" was written by Misia, composed by Sinkiroh and produced by Gomi. It was penned for the animation film King of Thorn.[1] Producers of the film felt very strongly that Misia was the only singer who fit the vision the director, Kazuyoshi Katayama, had for the theme song: a powerful song about hope.[1] The title of the song refers to the hopes and dreams people hold on to until the last moment of their lives.[1]
"Edge of This World" debuted at number 43 on the Billboard Japan Hot Top Airplay chart and at number 48 on the Japan Hot 100 chart.[2][3] The song fell eighth spots down to number 56 on the Hot 100 in its second week.[4]
