The Electoral district of Gibson is a single-member electorate for the South Australian House of Assembly in the southwestern suburbs of Adelaide. It was created by the redistribution conducted in 2016, and will be contested for the first time at the 2018 state election.[1]:pages 45–46
Gibson is named after Gladys Gibson CBE (1901–1972), who was a teacher and women's activist in the middle of the twentieth century. It replaced the electoral district of Bright although only slightly over 9000 electors (of about 25000) from Bright remained in Gibson after the redistribution. Other electors came from Elder, Mitchell and Morphett.[1]:Appendix 9
Geography
At its creation, Gibson contained the suburbs of Brighton, Dover Gardens, Hove, Marion, North Brighton, Oaklands Park, Seacombe Gardens, South Brighton, Sturt, Warradale and the southern portion of Somerton Park.[2]
