Esteban Efraín Paredes Quintanilla (American Spanish: [esˈteβan paˈɾeðes], born 1 August 1980) is a Chilean footballer currently playing for Chilean club Colo-Colo as a striker.

Paredes has been five-time Primera División de Chile top goalscorer and the only one in Chilean football history to do it.[1] He represented his country in two FIFA World Cups, 2010, 2014, and one Copa América, in 2011.

Early life

Born in Santiago suburb of Cerro Navia, Paredes had a difficult childhood. It is reported his mother took off with his then two-year old sister, moving from the Chilean capital for Copiapó, and abandoned Esteban leaving him and his father, when he was only five years old.[2] Eight years later, when Paredes was 12, his father took up with a new love, and she became like a mother to Esteban: he loves her, and considers her his parent.[2] despite their previous history, he once tried to live with his biological mother, but after just two months, he decided it was not going to work and he returned home to his father and step-mother.[3]
