Frederick Charles "Fred" Bartholomew (3 January 1885 – 1979) was an English professional football utility player who played in the Football League for Reading.[1] He served the club as a player, coach and groundsman for 53 years.[2]

Personal life

Bartholomew served as a colour sergeant with the 17th (Service) Battalion of the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) during the First World War.[3] After retiring from football in 1923, he spent three years on the coaching staff at Reading and then became groundsman at Elm Park until his retirement in 1957.[2]
