Curriculum and education
It has a focus on science and mathematics classes,[4] with addition and subtraction taught in kindergarten and two-digit multiplication and mental arithmetic done at the primary school level. English is the medium of instruction. Other classes offered at the primary level include computer programming and yoga.[3]
As of 2010 most students at this school and other Indian international schools who intend to study in the system until high school are aiming to enroll in universities outside Japan; the Tokyo Metropolitan Government considers this school and the other two Indian international schools in Tokyo to be "unauthorized schools" or schools which do not count as providing compulsory education under the School Education Law. A student who only attends "unauthorized schools" is ineligible to attend a university in Japan.[3]
Student body
As of 2008 it had about 200 students, with 20 being Japanese.[5] As of 2011 it has 250 students, 65% of whom were Indian nationals whose parents worked in the information technology sector, and 25% of whom were Japanese. Initially the school had few Japanese students but the number increased as the popularity of international schools among Japanese people increased.[4]
