Google Play Games is an online gaming service and SDK operated by Google for the Android operating system. It features real-time multiplayer gaming capabilities, cloud saves, social and public leaderboards, achievements, and anti-piracy features.[1] The service allows developers to include features in their games without having to develop those features themselves. The Google Play Games service was introduced at the Google I/O 2013 Developer Conference. As of 2015, thousands of games published through the Google Play Store support the service.

The standalone Google Play Games mobile app was launched on July 24, 2013, at an event called "Breakfast with Sundar Pichai" together with the new Nexus 7, Android 4.3 and the Chromecast.[2][3] The service is similar to Apple's Game Center, a social gaming network for iOS. One of Play Games' social features is that it lists a user's Google+ friends' games on its home screen. According to Google, Google Play Games received over 100 million new users between January 2014 and June 2014, making it the fastest growing mobile gaming network of all time.[4]

In October 2015, the Play Games app was updated to allow users to record and share video from supported mobile games.[5]
