These are the results of the women's balance beam competition, one of six events for female competitors in artistic gymnastics at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne.

Sixty five gymnasts competed in the compulsory and optional rounds of the team competition. The top scorers in the team competition won the individual medals. There was no separate competition for individual apparatus.
