IUP-TV is the university Educational-access television station for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Student television station serves the IUP campus as well as Comcast Cable viewers in the counties of Armstrong, Clearfield, Jefferson, Indiana, Cambria, and Westmoreland in Pennsylvania. IUP-TV airs programs aimed at college students, various IUP sports, and high school football and basketball games from around the area. The studios are based in the basement of Davis Hall at IUP.

History

IUP-TV signed on the air in 1966, operating on Channel 9 as a cable-only station on Adelphia cable. Identified as CIUP-TV (Cable Indiana University of Pennsylvania) The station later switched to channels 47 and 23. In 1983, it moved to channel 16 and changed its call letters to "WIUP". In 1999, when Adelphia added Shop at Home on Channel 16, WIUP moved to channel 20.

In 2009, the off campus channel was changed to channel 6 on Comcast cable, the previous channel number of WJAC-TV. Comcast also asked that the station drop the "W" in the call letters, since the station is not an over-the-air station. The station began calling itself IUP-TV during the summer of 2009.

When original programming is not airing; the station marquee airs during daytime hours produced by Community TV, and The Classic Arts Showcase airs during late-night hours.

IUP-TV recently has tried to add programing to its station to build an audience and to make it more like a normal independent station. In 2006, it planned to team up with WPMY to become a MyNetworkTV affiliate for the region, and add other syndicated programming to the line-up, but the deal fell through and MNTV signed up with the recently formed WHVL-LP in State College.
