Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. Kingstowne is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It is a planned community amid the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Springfield, Alexandria, and Lorton, Virginia, and is centered on the intersection of South Van Dorn Street and Kingstowne Boulevard. The population as of the 2010 Census was 15,556.[1]

Kingstowne has a town center containing office and retail businesses. The entire community comprises numerous subdivisions containing apartments, condominiums, single-family homes, and townhomes. It began construction in the 1980s through the Halle Companies and is still expanding today in the town center with commercial and office space and in the subdivisions with more single-family homes. Kingstowne has its own zip code, 22315, a substation of the Alexandria U.S. Post Office.

Residents enjoy amenities including miles of walking trails, a beautiful lake, swimming pools, tennis and volleyball courts, numerous tot lots, an aerobics studio and two state-of-the-art fitness centers. Every effort has been made to maintain much of its 1200 acres of green space, making Kingstowne a unique urban environment.

RETAIL: Kingstowne’s shopping options range from national chains to local businesses, including: Bath & Body Works, Crest Cleaners, Dress Barn, Famous Footware, Hair Cuttery, Jungle’s Gym Fitness Center, Home Goods, Kingstowne Regal Cinemas (16), Lane Bryant, Mattress Discounters, My Gym, Nail Club, Next Day Blinds, Old Virginia Tobacco Company, Palm Beach Tan, Payless Shoes, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, PNC Bank, Radio Shack, Ross, Sally Beauty, Sleepy’s Mattress, Sunoco, Suntrust, The Avenue, TJ Max, United Studios of Self Defense, UPS Store, VA ABC Store, Visual Eyes, Wireless Jungle (AT&T) and World Market. One of the most popular spots in Kingstowne for families, singles or corporate outings is Top Golf Driving Range, Mini-Golf Course and restaurant. There is also a wide range of professional services and places of worship.

DINING: Kingstowne is home a wide variety of restaurants, from national and regional chains: Bonefish Grill, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and La Madeline to original, family-owned: Aditi Indian, Asian Bistro, Pasara Thai and Fiona’s Irish Pub. It also offers fast casual restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican Restaurant, Uno Pizzeria & Grill, Firehouse Subs, Johnny Rockets Burgers, Moby Dick’s House of Kabob, Noodles & Company and Panera Bread. Fast food restaurants include Burger King, Dairy Queen, KFC and Subway.

HISTORY/DEVELOPMENT: In 1985, Warren Halle, Halle Companies purchased his most ambitious venture to date: Kingstowne, a 1,300 acre mixed-use development in Fairfax County, Virginia, consisting of land for 5,500 residential units and over 2.3 million square feet of commercial and retail space. A meticulously planned and designed project, Kingstowne is the second largest Planned Unit Development (“PUD”) in Northern Virginia, outside of Reston. The residential component of Kingstowne is completely built out. Kingstowne’s first retail component, WalMart, opened in 1995. Phase 1 of the Giant Food Shopping Center and Kohl’s Department Store opened in 1996. Phases 2 and 3 of the Shopping Center were completed in 1998. The Shopping Center, which is now fully operational, consists of approximately 178,000 square feet – including Safeway Food Store. In 1996, an additional site was sold to and constructed by Storage USA. In 2001, development began on the Kingstowne Towne Center. The Towne Center consists of approximately 227,000 square feet of retail space. Commencing in 1990, The Halle Companies completed construction of two flex office buildings, in the Kingstowne development consisting of 92,000 square feet. Beginning in 1998, the company completed an additional 38,000 square foot flex office building. Also in 1998, a site was sold to the United States Postal Service who built a United States Post Office which continues to operate at this site. In 2000, a 24,000 square foot office building was built in Kingstowne and in 2001, a 45,000 square foot flex office building was completed and is leased to GSA. Two additional office buildings consisting of approximately 150,000 square feet and 51,000 square feet were completed in 2003. The 150,000 square foot building was sold in 2007. In 2004, development began in Kingstowne on an additional 150,000 square foot office building, a 16 screen 70,000 square foot theater and 20,000 square feet of retail. This project was completed and sold in 2007. In 2007, Kingstowne Car Wash / BP Gas station was developed and operated by The Halle Companies and sold in 2012. In 2012, a 110,000 sf office building was constructed in Kingstowne behind Kingstowne Car Wash and is managed by The Halle Companies. After three decades of developing Kingstowne there is only one 5 acre vacant parcel left in the Towne Center and is currently approved for 1,200,000 square feet office / retail development.
