List of Bangladesh Premier League captains
In cricket, the captain is a player who leads the team and has additional roles and responsibilities.[1][2] The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It has been held annually since its first edition in 2012.[3] In the two seasons played, 22 players have captained their team in at least one match.[4]
Mushfiqur Rahim, the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team since 2011, has played the most matches as a captain, having led in all 24 matches that he has played in, with an overall win–loss percentage of 66.66%. Mosharraf Hossain of the Dhaka Gladiators has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL as a captain with 100%. However, he only captained for one match. Brendan Taylor has the best win-loss rate with 83.33% in 6 matches who captained his team in more than 1 matches. But of those who have captained for at least 10 matches, Mashrafe Mortaza has the best win–loss percentage in the BPL, with a win–loss percentage of 76.19% from 21 matches. Rahim and Mortaza jointly lead in number of matches won as a captain with 16 wins. Of those who have captained at least 10 matches, Shahriar Nafees has the worst win–loss percentage of 28.57% from 14 matches. Nafees and Mahmudullah Riyad of the Chittagong Kings have lost the highest number of matches as captains with 10 losses. Alok Kapali, Nafees, Rahim and Lou Vincent are the only players who have captained two teams. Kapali and Vincent have each captained the Barisal Burners and Sylhet Royals, Nafees has captained the Barisal Burners and the Khulna Royal Bengals, and Rahim has captained the Duronto Rajshahi and the Sylhet Royals.[4]
Peter Trego of the Sylhet Royals has captained his team for the most number of matches without registering a win; he led his team in five matches which resulted in five losses. Six players have captained the Sylhet Royals, five players have captained the Duronto Rajshahi, four players have captained the Barisal Burners, three players have captained the Chittagong Kings, Dhaka Gladiators, Khulna Royal Bengals, and two players have captained the Rangpur Riders. Of the 22 players, who have played at least one match as a captain, 16 of them are from Bangladesh. Of the six others, two are from Sri Lanka and one each from Australia, England, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.[4]
The list includes those players who have captained their team in at least one BPL match. The list is initially organized by the number of matches as a captain and if the numbers are tied, the list is sorted by win–loss percentage. If still tied then they are sorted by their last name.[lower-greek 1][lower-greek 2]
