Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. Madison Central High School is a public high school located in Richmond, Kentucky. Its school mascot is "The Indians". The original Central High School was built in 1938 and was one of several small high schools in Madison County. Additions were made to the school beginning in 1953 and Madison Central (consolidated) High School was opened in the fall of 1954. Central was a consolidation of four Madison County system high schools (Central, Kingston, Waco and Kirksville). It was the lone high school in the county system until Madison Southern High School was opened in the fall of 1988. In 1989, Richmond's city high school (Madison) was dissolved and its students were moved to Central. Madison Central currently serves the citizens of Richmond and the northern sector of Madison County.

They have a current enrollment of approximately 2000 students.

In 2003, the school underwent a major renovation project, which included a new cafeteria. In 2005-2006, an auditorium was built on the school campus, as well as remodeling the hallway section that leads to it and the health building gymnasium, and new sets of classrooms and a lecture hall under the auditorium.

Sports

Football

Baseball

The school baseball team won the 1982 Kentucky High School State Baseball Championship by going 40-0. That team was coached by Don Richardson, whom the field was named after in 2008. The team is now led by Coach Steve Roof.

Basketball

The basketball team won the State Championship in 2013 and the 11th region in 1987, 1999, 2006 and 2013. The 1999 squad was the only Madison Central team to win the Kentucky State AAU Championship and was led by former Kentucky Wildcat Marquis Estill and high school standouts Kenneal Jenkins, Chuckie Campbell,[3] and Brandon Fritz (now freshman coach for the Indians). Kenneal Jenkins and underclassman Ryan Jones, both on the 1999 basketball team, also established themselves on the football field, Jones holding multiple passing records for the Indians. Their coach is currently Allen Feldhaus Jr., who is the brother of Deron Feldhaus, a member of the "Unforgettable" 1991-92 University of Kentucky (UK) basketball team. Dominique Hawkins became the first Madison Central player to win Mr. Basketball in 2013, and is now playing for UK.

Cheerleading

The cheerleaders, coached by Karen Feldhaus, won the KHSAA State Championship in 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2013. The junior varsity squad has won the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship 5 times, and the varsity squad frequently places in the top 5 of the Small Varsity division, with a 3rd-place finish in 2010. They were featured in American Cheerleader Magazine in 2007. You can catch videos of the girls' performances on ESPN2 each spring.

Marching band

The marching band won the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) State Championship in 1989 (Class 2A), 2004 (Class 3A) and 2014 (Class 5A). Their 2014 KMEA 5A State Championship win marked the first time since 1990 a band from outside Lexington (Fayette County) won the top honors in the largest class. (Through 2004, bands were classified according to the number of members in the band, and 4A bands were the largest of these. In 2005, KMEA began classifying bands according to the size of the school, necessitating the addition of a 5A class.)

The band has competed in the KMEA State Finals (involving the top four semifinalists in each of the five classes) a total of 17 times including Class AA: 1988, 1989, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2003, Class AAA: 2001, 2004 Class AAAAA: 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Their Director of Bands is H. Brent Barton.

Track

The girl's track team won 2010 Regionals, and the boy's track team came in second in the 2010 Regionals. Both the girls' and boys' track teams placed 1st in the 2011 Regionals.

Archery

The MCHS archery team placed 1st in region with the highest team score in the nation, 5th in state and 9th in nationals in 2013. The team qualified for 2013 nationals. Ryan Long, who has placed 2nd and 3rd in national NASP tournaments, and who is also the first person to shoot a perfect score of 300 in a NASP tournament, signed for the archery team at the University of the Cumberlands in 2013.

Mock trial

The Madison Central/KY Tech Mock Trial team is a state renowned program with Kentucky Mock Trial State Championship wins in 2001, 2009 and 2010. The MCHS Mock Trial team was also the state runner up in 2007 and 2013, losing to Montgomery County in the championship round, and in 2015, losing to Dixie Heights in the championship round. The team has also placed in the top 25 of all three National Tournaments they attended. In 2009 and 2010 the team won back-to-back Kentucky State Championships under lead student attorneys Sydney Morton and Brad Allen and were coached by Judge Bill Clouse, Vicki Rollins, Robin Lakes and Kristin Clouse. The second of those championships was a remake of the infamous United States v. Cassius Clay trial. In 2014, the team attended the Empire Mock Trial World Championship tournament in New York City and placed in the Top 20. In 2015, the team attended Empire Mock Trial: The Southern Showdown and placed 8th.

Science Olympiad

Three of Madison Central's Science Olympiad teams placed 1st, 3rd, and 4th in 2013 Regionals, and advanced to state, winning three medals.

Academic team

The MCHS Academic Team placed 1st in district and 5th in regionals in 2013, with three members qualifying for state.
