Mateusz Klich ([maˈtɛuʂ ˈklix]; born 13 June 1990 in Tarnów) is a Polish footballer who plays as a midfielder for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 2. Bundesliga.

Club career

Cracovia

Klich debuted in the Ekstraklasa in November 2008. During the 2009-10 season, he gradually became a regular in Cracovia's starting eleven.

VfL Wolfsburg

On 14 June 2011 he signed with VfL Wolfsburg on a 3-years deal. Wolfsburg paid €1.5 million for Klich, making him the most valuable player in Cracovia's club history.[1]

PEC Zwolle

After joining PEC Zwolle on loan from VfL Wolfsburg for half a season, he was permanently transferred for a free reportedly €200,000.[2] On 26 June 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the Dutch side.[3] Wolfsburg however secured themselves a repurchase option.[4]

VfL Wolfsburg

In June 2014 it became known that Wolfsburg had executed the repurchase option for Klich. The transfer fee amounts allegedly €750,000. Wolfsburgs head coach Dieter Hecking stated that Klich had made progress at Zwolle and sees him as option for an offensive role in defensive midfield.[5] During the subsequent first half of the season however, he didn't earn a single cap in the Bundesliga and was only used in fourth tier reserve team.

1. FC Kaiserslautern

In early January 2015, German 2. Bundesliga club 1. FC Kaiserslautern announced that they engaged Klich on permanent basis, him signing a contract until summer 2018. The transfer fee remained undisclosed.[6]

International career

Klich made his debut for the national team of Poland on 5 June 2011 in a friendly match against Argentina. Poland won 2-1.[7] He scored his first goal in national team in the friendly game against Denmark on 14 August 2013.
