Miroslav "Miro" Šipek (born 6 April 1948) is a Yugoslav Australian rifle shooting coach. He represented Yugoslavia at the 1972 Summer Olympics in rifle shooting. He was the coach for Australia's shooters at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
Personal
Sipek was born on 6 April 1948[1] in Sarajevo, PR Bosnia and Herzegovina.[2][3][4] When he competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics, he was 176 centimetres (69 in) tall and weighed 67 kilograms (148 lb).[1] In 1984, he was a sculptor.[5] During the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, he was attempting to get a permit which would have allowed a snowman to have a permit to carry a rifle to the biathlete event.[5] In 2008, he was based in Melbourne, Australia.[6]
Shooting
Competing
Sipek competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics where he represented Yugoslavia in the Mixed Small-Bore Rifle, Prone, 50 metres event. He finished thirty-first overall.[1][3][4]
Coaching
Sipek is a rifle shooting coach.[7] Shooters he has coached include Warren Potent,[6][8] Ashley Adams,[7][9] Libby Kosmala[10][11] and Jason Maroney.[12] He started coaching Ben Burge in 2003.[13]
He coached the Australian national team at the 2000 Summer Olympics.[14] Budget cuts meant he lost his Australian national team rifle coaching position in 2000.[15] He coached the Australian Olympic rifle team at the 2004 Summer Olympics, his sixth Olympics he attended.[16] He coached the able bodied and disability national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.[9][10][17][18] He travelled with the team to Beijing.[6] He talked to the press following a poor performance by Ashley Adams.[18] He coached the national team at the 2010 International Shooting World Cup.[19] In 2011, he was the head coach of the Australian Paralympic and Olympic Australian national teams.[20] He helped oversee the Paralympic national team as they began to use specially designed shooting wheelchairs.[20] He coached the national team at the 2012 ISSF World Cup.[21] He was the coach for Australia's shooters at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.[22][23]
