Location of Mistaken Point in Newfoundland
Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve is a reserve located at southeastern tip of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula. The site was first discovered in 1967 by S.B. Misra, an M.Sc. student from India, when he discovered a fossil, Fractofusus misrai in the reserve in June 1967, which was eventually named after him in 2007.[1] It is one of the world's most significant fossil and geological sites with fossils dated from 575 to 542 million years ago. The area is one of nine sites on the Canadian Tentative list of potential UNESCO World Heritage properties.[2][3]
