The full title is Odalisque assise aux bras levés, fauteuil rayé vert, which translates as "Odalisque with raised arms sitting on a green striped armchair". It is located in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C, which acquired it in 1963 from the art collector Chester Dale.
The subject is Henriette Darricarrière, who was a ballet dancer at Studios de la Victorine, a cinematic studio founded in 1919 now called Studios Riviera.fr:Studios Riviera A fellow painter, she also played the violin and the piano. The transparent pants she is wearing are part of a harem costume.
