Ojude Oba festival

Ojude Oba is a Yoruba festival held in Ijebu Ode, a town in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria. It is held annually three days after Eid al-Kabir.[1] The festival began over 100 years ago during the reign of the pioneer Awujale of Ijebu Ode. Today, the festival is usually attended by over 25000 people across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.[2] The festival is often sponsored by the incumbent Awujale, the people of Ijebu-Ode, individuals and corporate organizations.[3]

Festival

The festival is usually a colourful one, where a whole range of musicians are invited to especially Fuji artistes. The music is accompanied with various types of drums such as Ìpèsè, Dundun, sèkèrè. The festival gives the Ijebu's an opportunity to renew their loyalty to their king. Ijebu's return home annually from different places within and outside Nigeria to celebrate and wish the Awujale (king) a peaceful tenure.[4]
