  • Michael Sheen as Arthur
  • Laurence Fishburne as Gus Mancuso

Production

The original script for Passengers written by Jon Spaihts had been floating around Hollywood for years.[1] Brian Kirk was originally scheduled to make his feature directional debut with the film with Keanu Reeves at the lead[5] and Wayfare Entertainment financing and producing the film.[6] On December 5, 2014, it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment had won the auction to take the rights to the film.[7] On January 27, 2015, it was announced that Sony was in early talks with The Imitation Game's director Morten Tyldum to direct the film.[8] On February 6, first Variety reported that Jennifer Lawrence was in early talks to join the film,[9] later the same day TheWrap also reported that Chris Pratt was in talks too, to star in the film.[10] On July 17, 2015, Michael Sheen joined the cast of the film to play the robot traveling along with Pratt's and Lawrence's characters.[11] On August 5, 2015, Laurence Fishburne was in talks to join the film.[12] Producers of the film would be Company Films' Stephen Hamel, Start Media's Michael Maher, and Original Film's Ori Marmur & Neal H. Moritz.[11] In February 2016, Aurora Perrineau's casting in the film as Aurora's best friend was confirmed.[13] The story and screenplay for Passengers was conceived and developed at Stephen Hamel & Keanu Reeves production company Company Films, where Hamel writes the majority of the stories created there.
