PITT OHIO is a $388.2 Million [1] service organization providing less-than-truckload, truckload, supply chain solutions and ground services in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest United States. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, PITT OHIO began operations in 1979 by the Hammel family and is now owned by Charles L. Hammel, III. As of 2014, PITT OHIO has more than 2,300 employees

History

PITT OHIO was founded in December 1978 by the Hammel brothers Robert, Kenneth, and Charles III and began operations in 1979. The company began with 3 trucks, three drivers, and one terminal in Pittsburgh. In 1982, PITT OHIO opened its second terminal in Cleveland, Ohio and have continued to open terminals in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.

PITT OHIO Truckload, powered by ECM Transport, was formed in 2005 when PITT OHIO acquired a majority interest in ECM Transport, LLC, a truckload company also located in the Pittsburgh area. ECM Transport maintains a comprehensive fleet with over 300 tractors, and 1,200 trailers.[2]

The Reliance Network

In 2008, PITT OHIO joined Lakeville Motor Express to create The Reliance Network (TRNET), a unified, across-the-continent coalition for all freight services. TRNET is a single source provider of freight forwarding for all of North America. The 7 carriers of The Reliance Network include:[3]

PITT OHIO has the following services: Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), TRUCKLOAD (TL), SUPPLY CHAIN, GROUND, Expedited - Fast Track, Protect From Freezing – Heat Track, The Reliance Network, and TRNet Express.

Safety

PITT OHIO is a five-time recipient of the American Trucking Association’s President’s Trophy. This is the highest of Safety Awards presented to motor carriers in the transportation industry, recognizing the company for having the best overall safety program.

In 2012, PITT OHIO was awarded first place in the General Commodities LTL Over 15 Million Miles in Pennsylvania, first place in the LTL Division Over 4 Million Miles in Virginia, and first place in the 2,250,000-3,000,000 Miles intercity Fleet Safety Award. In May 2013, PITT OHIO received their third Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association President's Trophy for having the lowest accident frequency of any carrier in the state.[4]
