"Pony Blues" is a Delta blues song recorded in 1929 by Charley Patton. The recording was the first he made in his short career. It is considered one of his greatest songs.
Recording and background
With the help of record store owner H. C. Speir, Patton obtained his first recording session, for Paramount Records, on June 14, 1929. He cut 14 sides, including "Pony Blues" (vocal and guitar).[1] Patton's compositions "Banty Rooster Blues" and "Down the Dirt Road" were also recorded at this session.[2]
