R.D. Singh

R.D. Singh (Ripudaman Singh Aulakh) (born June 7, 1954) is an Indian athletics coach from Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. He is a recipient of Dronacharya Award,[1] by the government of India. He is India's only Dronacharya awardee coach for para-sports.

Personal life

  • He was the third son out of a family of 8 children born to Jarnail Singh Aulakh and Balwant Kaur in a small village Karadwala in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan.
  • His marriage was solemnised to Mrs Inderjeet Kaur on 22 January 1986. He has one son navdeep singh and he is an electronics engineer.
  • He has been running his own hostel by the name of Dronacharya Hostel since 1990. In this hostel 16 athletes can be accommodate at one time .This Hostel is only for BPL(Below Poverty Line) and Physically Challenged athletes. These type of athletes get admission without any cost.

Career as a Coach

  • After a good career as an athlete he joined N.M.P.G. College,Hanumangarh as a Director Physical Education in 1981. In early days of service he got governor award for excellent coaching to Rajasthan's athletes in 1985.
  • In his guidance approx 500 trainees played in all India Inter University. he is working for physical handicap and BPL athletes from 1990.
  • In 1997 He found Devendra Jhajharia in school competition. In 2004 his trainee Devendra Jhajharia became first ever paralympic gold medal winner of India. In 2003 He found para athlete jagseer singh and he also won many international medal.
  • In 2005 Govt. of Rajasthan honor him for his achievements.
  • In 2007 Govt. of India gave prestigious dronacharya award for his great achievements in para-sport. Also he became first and only dronacharya awardee for para-sports.
  • In 2010 Hero Honda Also Honored him for achievements. In 2010 Asian Para Games his trainee jagseer singh won historical gold medal .It is only gold medal for India.
  • he has been worked as a Chief Coach of para athletics team in Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi and 2010 Asian Para Games, Guangzhou.[2]
  • Many of his disciples have won national and international medals including the prestigious Arjun Award. Notables include-[3]
  • Devendra Jhajharia (Arjun Award Winner)-Only paralympics gold meadlist from India.[4]
  • Jagseer Singh (Arjun Award Winner)-Only gold meadlist in Asian Para Games for India.[5]
  • Sandeep Maan -Youngest athlete who won silver medal in Asian Para Games.
  • Deepa Malik-Only athlete who won silver medal in IPC Athletics World Championships.[6]
  • Jagdeep Singh-He is nephew of dronacharya R.D. Singh and now he is playing in Indian basketball team. His early training gave by him.
