Ryne Nelson (born February 2, 1998) is an American college baseball pitcher for the Oregon Ducks.
Career
Nelson attended and graduated from Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada. As a senior, he batted .412 with four home runs and 22 RBIs along with pitching to a 6-1 record with a 2.03 ERA.[1] Undrafted out of high school in the 2016 MLB draft, he enrolled at the University of Oregon to play college baseball for the Oregon Ducks.
In 2017, as a freshman at Oregon, Nelson suffered an injury and pitched only 13.1 innings in which he had a 4.72 ERA.[2] As a sophomore in 2018, he returned healthy and appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen, going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA.[3]
Prior to the 2019 season, Nelson was named a Preseason All-American by Baseball America.[4] He was also moved into the starting rotation for his junior year.[5]
Nelson is considered one of the top prospects for the 2019 Major League Baseball draft.[6]
