Sia ferox (also known as Riokku(リオック) or Obakekorogisu(オバケコロギス) in Japan) is a species of crickets that lives in Indonesia, family Stenopelmatidae, genus Sia.

Appearance

The length is 65–80 millimetres (2.6–3.1 in). Although its basic form is similar to the Stenopelmatoidea, it is somewhat elongated. Its body color is brown. The female has a rudimentary ovipositor, unlike true Gryllacrididae or Anostostomatidae species. It is similar to Jerusalem cricket, but it is the only species that Stenopelmatidae lives in Indonesia. Sia ferox is a predatory cricket. Sometimes Female preys on males. The Sia Ferox is a spider hunter, in which that it hunts tarantula, spiders, and even webbed spiders. Some lighter species, like the bulldog raspy cricket, will take down the largest spiders on webs. They are more powerful than katydids, mantis, and even tiger beetles, and will kill any of these terrible species with aggression.

Ecology

The species is nocturnal. It also preys on other insects possibly found in the bottom of rainforest. Like other Stenopelmatidae species, Sia ferox usually hides its burrow in days. At night, This cricket comes out from its burrow and search the prey like mantis, cricket and grasshopper.
