Simon Makienok Christoffersen (born 21 November 1990) is a Danish footballer who plays as a striker for the Championship side Charlton Athletic, on loan from Palermo. Makienok has also represented Denmark at senior and several youth levels.

Career

Brøndby IF

Season 2011-12

Makienok joined Brøndby IF on 28 January 2012 on a €550K transfer from HB Køge, signing a 4-year contract which ties him to the club until the summer 2016. Simon was given the number 9 shirt. He made his debut on 4 March 2012, in a 1–0 win against SønderjyskE. Makienok scored his first goal for Brøndby IF 18 March 2012 in the 2–1 away win against FC Nordsjælland. Simon Makienok was rewarded with Player of the month in the Danish Superliga.

Season 2013-14

On 20 August 2013, Brøndby IF announced that they had accepted an €3.8M (DKK28.5M) offer from a Russian club on the young forward.[1] Makienok reportedly said that 'Money isn't everything' and decided to stay at Brøndby IF.[2] According to multiple Danish newspapers the forward turned down a weekly salary of €34K (€1.632K/year)[3] from the Russian club FC Terek Grozny.[4]

Simon has according to multible medias caught the attention of several French clubs [5] and the English side Crystal Palace [6] and Fulham FC during 2013. Makienok price tag is reportedly no less than €4M.[7] According to several Danish medias Makienok rejected a contract extension offer due to a desire of pursue new challenges during the summer transfer window 2014.[8]

Season 2014-15

On 31 July Makienok made his Europa League debut from the starting line up in the 3-0 away defeat against the Belgium side Club Brugge.[9] During the last weeks of the summer transfer window 2014 rumors kept going stronger about foreign interest in the signature from Makienok. Several Italian Serie A clubs have revealed their interest with Palermo leading ahead of Atalanta, Cesena and the Scottish side Celtic in the chase of the Danish International striker which have an asking price of €3M according to Danish medias.[10]

Palermo

Season 2014-15

On 30 August 2014 Simon finally penned a four-year contract with the newly promoted Italian side Palermo after days with speculations. The transfer fee is reportedly €2.3M.[11][12]

Charlton Athletic

Season 2015-16

On 1 July 2015 Makienok joined Charlton Athletic on a one-year loan.[13] He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Hull City on 22 August 2015.[14]

Personal life

In August 2013, Simon Makienok started dating the Danish TV-host Ibi Støving who is 16 years older than him. Ibi has a son with the former professional football-player Tobias Grahn.[15] The couple revealed on their personal blog crystalkidbabyshark.com that Makienok had proposed to Ibi on 4 April 2014. They are now engaged to be married.[16]
