Stefan Oschmann (born 25 July 1957 in Würzburg) is a German business executive, who has served as the chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman of the executive board of Merck since April 2016.
Education and early career
Oschmann studied veterinary medicine at LMU 1977–1982 and earned a PhD in 1985. He worked for the International Atomic Energy Agency 1985–1987 and for the German Animal Health Federation 1987–1989.
MSD
From 1989 to 2011, he worked for MSD. He was managing director of MSD Austria from 1994, vice president for Central and Eastern Europe from 1998, vice president of MSD Europe and managing director of MSD Germany from 1999, senior vice president for worldwide human health marketing from 2005, president for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Canada from 2006 and most recently served as MSD's president of emerging markets from 2009 to 2011.[1]
Merck
He joined Merck as a member of the executive board in 2011, and became vice chairman of the executive board and deputy CEO of Merck in 2015.[2] In October 2015, it was announced that Oschmann will succeed Karl-Ludwig Kley as CEO in April 2016.[3][4]
Oschmann is the president of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA).
