Means the sons of mountains. Sungwal is a tribe of Niazi Pashtuns, remnants of which are still found in Mianwali. It was nearly exterminated in the reign of Sher Shah suri. They settled in mianwali and started business with awans. More than a half century they lived with them. but after that the awans were expelled out from the mianwali and they kept the lands of the awans. as, sungwal is the branch of niazi tribe but some people consider them the awan branch which is not the reality. this is actually the sungwals lived and trade with awans that is why some people are confused about that. In the reign of Aurangzeb, (1662-3) the sungwals then settled on the west of the indus, held also dhankot to the east of that river.
