- 1886 - Addis Ababa ("New Flower") founded by Taytu Betul, Empress Consort of the Ethiopian Empire.[1]
- 1889 - Population: 15,000 (estimate).[2]
- 1891 - Ethiopian capital relocated to Addis Ababa from Entoto (approximate date).[3][4]
- 1896 - St. George's Cathedral built.
