The United States competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. 346 competitors, 267 men and 79 women, took part in 159 events in 19 sports.[1]
The use of both the English alphabet and abbreviations threw the country directly in front of the USSR in the Parade of Nations. The United States earned the most Gold medals during the competition, with 36, while their 90 total medals were second behind the USSR's 96.
