The University of Port Harcourt is a university in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt. It was established in 1975[5] as University College, Port Harcourt, and was given university status in 1977.[1]
Faculties
The university originally had six schools in 1977:[3]
- School of Humanities
- School of Social Sciences
- School of Biological Sciences
- School of Chemical Sciences
- School of Physical Sciences
- School of Educational Studies
- School of Science Laboratory Technology
It changed from a school system to a faculty system in 1982.[3] The university now has ten faculties:
