V399 Carinae (V399 Car) or P Carinae (P Car) is a variable star in the constellation Carina.
V399 Carinae is a white A-type star that is either a luminous supergiant [5] or hypergiant.[3] Mean magnitude is +4.69V, with its approximate distance 8,000 light years (2450 parsecs)[6] from Earth assuming it is a member of the IC 2581 open cluster, which is given a 62.9% probability.[7]
Its brightness varies from magnitude +4.64 to +4.71 with various periods of 1–2 months. It is classified as a Cepheid variable star, but almost certainly isn't.[3]
