Timeline
The program initially was a replacement for Scarborough Country after Joe Scarborough, the program's host, was moved to host a morning show for the network, titled Morning Joe, along with Mika Brzezinski and John Ridley (later replaced by Willie Geist). The program under its final title began on March 17, 2008. Prior to Monday March 17, 2008, the show was known as Live with Dan Abrams.
On August 19, 2008, Keith Olbermann, also an anchor on MSNBC, reported on his show that radio and television personality Rachel Maddow would have her own new show which will be aired during this time slot beginning on September 8, 2008. This move by MSNBC ended the more-than-one-year-long run of Verdict with Dan Abrams.
Program segments
Verdict featured new segments and a new style of delivering the news. Segments included "Beat the Press," "Why America Hates Washington," and "Winners and Losers." The show also had added a segment read at the end with e-mails entitled the "P.O.'d Box."
Guests
Ron Reagan, son of former US president Ronald Reagan, Andrea Tantaros, Joe Watkins, Tucker Carlson, Roy Sekoff, Chrystia Freeland and A. B. Stoddard (associate editor of The Hill) were some of the frequent guests on the program.
MSNBC reporter Contessa Brewer had recently been the primary presenter for the "Winners and Losers" segment and chatted and joked with Abrams about the day's selections.
