WKZA (106.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Hot Adult Contemporary/Contemporary hit radio format. Licensed to Lakewood, New York, USA, the station serves the Jamestown, New York area. The station is currently owned by Cross Country Communications, LLC;[1] it is one of only two commercial radio stations based in southern Chautauqua County not owned by Media One Group (the other being sister station WLKW-FM in Celoron.

History

The station originally intended to sign on as WKSQ-FM, as FCC records dated 5 September 2000 indicate. On 9 October 2000, the station changed its call sign to the current WKZA,[2] the call sign made popular by a now defunct AM station in nearby Kane, Pennsylvania. However, the station did not sign on until late November 2000.

The station's first format was a stunt, airing continuous Christmas music. Soon after, the station "officially" signed on with its format of KISS-FM hit radio, which it has maintained ever since.

Personalities heard on WKZA include Heather Skuggen (KISS-FM Morning Show), Joe McMillan and Johnny Nixon. Syndicated programs include American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest and various shows hosted by Tom Kent.
