History of call letters
WROV-FM first signed on the air in January of 1950 as WMVA-FM.[5] It was a sister station to AM 1450 WMVA and served Martinsville and its neighboring communities. When it got a power boost, 96.3 could target the larger Roanoke-Lynchburg market and was bought by 1240 WROV (now WGMN) as a companion FM station.
The call letters WROV-FM were previously assigned to a station in Roanoke, Virginia. It began broadcasting on 103.7 MHz in 1948. It was a sister station of WROV (now WGMN) and initially duplicated that station's programming.[6]
