Xi Zhicai was an advisor to the warlord Cao Cao during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history. He was introduced to join Cao's service through the recommendation of Xun Yu. Xi Zhicai was indeed a very brilliant tactician under Cao Cao, playing many very important roles.[citation needed] However, Xi Zhicai ended up dying very young. Xun Yu then requested Xi Zhicai to be replaced by another very brilliant strategist, Guo Jia, who was himself destined to die at an early age too.
