Katwa I (community development block) (Bengali: কাটোয়া-১ উন্নয়ন সমষ্টি ) is an administrative division in Katwa subdivision of Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Katwa police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Panchghara under Khajurdihi Gram Panchayat. Panuhat is an urban area in this block.[1][2]

Demographics

As per 2011 census, Katwa I block had a total population of 172877, out of which 88982 were males and 83895 were females. Katwa I block registered a population growth of 16.27 per cent during the 2001-2011 decade.

Gender ratio is 943.

Scheduled castes at 48,852 formed around one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 1,676.[4]

Electoral details

Katwa-1 Development Block is covered under 3 Legislative Assembly Constituencies namely 270 Katwa AC,271 Ketugram AC and 272 Mangalkot AC.A total number of 230 polling stations having 149 in Katwa AC,34 in Ketugram AC,47 in Mangalkot AC are there in this Block.

As per Summery Revision of Electoral Rolls with qualifying date as 01.01.2016, number of male electors are 65653 and that of female are 60561.

Gender ratio in this regard is 922.4 . Elector-Population ratio is 0.73 .

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Katwa I block had a total literacy of 61.56 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 69.84 per cent female literacy was 52.66 per cent. Bardhaman district had a total literacy of 70.18 per cent, male literacy being 78.63 per cent and female literacy being 60.95 per cent.[5]
